osmos is native to scrub and meadowland in Mexico where most of the species occur, Florida and the southern United States, Arizona, Central America, and to South America in the north to Paraguay in the south. It is also widespread over the high eastern plains of South Africa, where it was introduced via contaminated horsefeed imported from Argentina during the Anglo-Boer War.
Cosmos are herbaceous perennial plants growing 0.3–2 m (1 ft 0 in–6 ft 7 in) tall. The leaves are simple, pinnate, or bipinnate, and arranged in opposite pairs. The flowers are produced in a capitulum with a ring of broad ray florets and a center of disc florets; flower color is very variable between the different species. The genus includes several ornamental plants popular in gardens. Numerous hybrids and cultivars have been selected and named.
The species includes Cosmos Bipinnatus which is usually known as the Mexican Aster, Cosmos Sulphureus also named the Yellow Cosmos, Cosmos Atrosanguineus also known as the Chocolate Cosmos, and others. It is called chocolate cosmos because it has a fragrance which is so similar to chocolate. The flower is able to bloom perfectly twice a year and is only once in season. It is able to grow in most all regions. There are some meanings associated with this flower as a symbol. In Greek’s language, cosmos means orderly, beautiful, and ornamental. It has been considered as the flower of love. The nice fragrance and nice vibrant look of it exudes the attributes of peacefulness, wholeness, and modesty.
When the chocolate flower is gifted by someone to you, it means he or she loves you more than anybody can. In general, the flower represents love and has been very popular during valentine.
